This policy explains what information The Desert Shadow collects through this website, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We have kept it deliberately short and plain.
Who we are
The Desert Shadow is a private vacation rental in Joshua Tree, California. You can reach us at info@the-desertshadow.com, or by phone on 909-241-0435 or 909-241-0451.
What we collect
We only collect information you type into a form yourself. There are two:
The booking enquiry form — your name, email address, phone number, your check-in and check-out dates, the number of guests, and any notes you add.
The newsletter sign-up — your first name, last name and email address.
Like almost all websites, our web host also keeps standard server logs, which can include your IP address and browser type. These are used for security and troubleshooting.
What we do not do
We do not use advertising trackers, analytics tools, or social media pixels on this website. We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.
Why we collect it
We use your booking enquiry to reply to you, check availability and arrange your stay. We use your newsletter details only to send you occasional offers and updates, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
Who else can see it
Your enquiry is sent to our email inbox and is read only by us and our website team. Our email and web hosting providers process this information on our behalf.
Our contact page includes an embedded Google map. When that map loads, Google may set cookies and receive your IP address. This is Google’s own processing and is covered by Google’s privacy policy.
How long we keep it
We keep booking enquiries for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any stay that follows, and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records. Newsletter details are kept until you ask to be removed.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to tell you what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Just email info@the-desertshadow.com and we will action it.
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under California privacy law, including the right to know what personal information we have collected, the right to request deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information.
Children
This website is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
